USA DANCE
EUGENE/SPRINGFIELD
CHAPTER #1010
Faye Henderson
Eugene, OR

October 11th, Paul Johnson, from Linda Staver's dance studio, started the evening with Intermediate Foxtrot. Using the timing: S,Q,Q. (1) Paul taught closed or open twinkle, ending in Promenade position. (2) Butterfly twinkle (man around lady) forward, side, forward and lady with three forward running steps. OOOOOOOO! Very well demonstrated and impressive. It appeared all the students enjoyed this Intermediate lesson and from what I observed "they got it"!

Beginning lesson, (Foxtrot) Paul had good control of even more students as he led them into a "very basic beginning" of this very much loved dance. This time he started with the count S,S,Q,Q, teaching and demonstrating the basic Promenade step. Then two step of a basic S,S, with outside underarm, lady turning on Q,Q and back to basic promenade step, ending with a "slow sway", (optional).

Paul your techniques and teachng skills brought out many positive remarks from several people. You will surely be ask to return and teach for us again in the future! THANKS

Social dancing began at 7pm, going till 9:30pm with as many as 35-40+ people in attendance and eager to practice and refine those patterns and steps in Foxtrot.

DJs for the evening were Meng and WU, and as always choosing from a great selection of their ballroom music, and spinning several Foxtrot #'s, in keeping with our theme thru out the evening. Thanks to ALL our wonderful DJs, because without music there would be no dance. We applaude you!!

FUTURE DANCES:
November: (Sunday,11/08/09)
Vlad Anokhin (Tatyana's Ballroom, Beaverton) will head up the Intermediate lesson at 5pm....SAMBA.
Beginning SAMBA at 6pm. This evening (11/08/09) marks our annual formal/semi formal, with tables, table cloths (I like that), flowers, fall decorations, punch, (in a real punch bowl), and including an "Hors d' Oeuvre Happening". Sounds like "party time" is about to kick in. This evening will also include a few professional/amateur showcases with lots and lots of social dancing throughout the evening. Ladies this is your opportunity to "dress up" and WEAR ALL YOUR JEWELRY, and you gentlemen, you're "Oh, so handsome" when you "clean up".

December 13th dance will feature Laura Taylor teaching Hustle, as only this lovely and charming lady can teach this dance. I will be there, first in line with shoes on, tied and buckled for a great lesson in Hustle.

January 10th......2010! ALREADY?
Julie Reid will teach the most loved dance of all, WALTZ.

If you attended the OR FALL FESTIVAL Oct 9,10 and 11th you saw Eugene was very well represented with Staver"s dance studio receiving "Top Studio Award". Congratulations to Linda Staver, teachers, and students....a proud moment, you deserve it. I saw a large number of Blue Ribbons awarded to many, many dancers from the Eugene area. Unable to name everyone, but congratulations to all of you as well for your dedication, hard work and the love you show for Ballroom Dancing.

Don't forget you can participate or attend as a spectator in March, "City of Roses Ballroom Classic". Dates are: March 12th, 13th and 14th, 2010. The best in professional shows, plenty of competition of all ages and levels. Mary and Rick always turn this into a two day "party like" occasion. Mark your calendar.

All who enjoy Ballroom dancing are invited to join us each month (second Sunday) at 5pm for an Intermediate lesson and 6pm for Beginning lesson. Social dancing 7pm to 9:30pm.

You will find us at the Vet's Mem. Bldg 1626 Willamette St. Eugene. $5 members and full time students. $8 for others.

Stay safe and healthy,
Faye Henderson
