Again life, high energy, color and sparkle filled the Ballroom for our annual semi/formal dance on November 8th. The decorated tables were well placed around the floor, thus providing ample space for dancers to move swiftly and gracefully around the dance floor. The food and punch tables so attractive and conveniently provided a popular location to gather for snacks, beverages and social conversation. A GRAND EVENING! I must add, attendance was up by a good number. Ballroom Dancing is alive and well here in Eugene!! Ladies appearing beautiful as always in those lovely gowns/dresses. You gents "cleaned up" very nicely, too.
The festive evening began at 5pm with Vlad Anokhin, from Tatyana's Ballroom in Beaverton, teaching Intermediate Samba to a sizeable group of experienced dancers. Vlad stressed technique, musicality and body movement in this very popular Latin/Rhythm dance. More and more and more students gathered at 6pm for the Beginning Samba lesson. Vlad kept the pace with great control, demos very noteworthy, and his sharp awareness of how his students are "catching on". I heard from many of those participating as well as many sitting, watching "in ahh" this talented young man give 150% of himself to the cause of teaching dance. Vlad, you are remarkable!!! You can count on being invited back to our chapter again in the future. Thank you!!!
Always a BIG THANK YOU to our DJ, Robert Phaigh. Robert always spins everyones favorites, and he provided plenty of Samba #s for those wanting to practice new techniques just learned from Vlad's lessons. Laura Taylor, great job of MCing.
