Chapter #1010
March 14,2010
Faye Henderson
Didn't we just celebrate the New Year? March already? Guess I napped too long!
Anyway........Here's the "Club Chatter" for March.
The evening was off with a good start, with Paul Johnson, from StaverDanceSport, teaching intermediate Foxtrot to 35-40 dancers ready at 5pm.
Paul led this group of experienced dancers with the count of S,Q, Q, thru some challenging, fun steps and patterns. Paul kept the attention and control of this group, and by the end of the class hr everyone had learned and was able to dance a complete routine in intermediate Foxtrot. "THEY GOT IT"! Many smiling faces.....Great job, Paul.
More and more dancers arrived by 6pm for the beginning lesson in Foxtrot. This time Paul chose the count of S,S,Q,Q, making it fun, easy and well demonstrated for the beginner. Paul also pointed out some basic rules for the beginner, regarding "line of dance", the four (4) points of connection in framing up with your partner and other important positions regarding Ballroom Dancing.
That's what we are all about, "Ballroom Dancing"!
Thanks, Paul, for bringing fun and pleasure to our chapter and presenting two great lessons in Foxtrot. You will remain on our list of "favorable teachers".
Thanks to Wu and Meng for DJing, and introducing some "brand new" music.....Great selections and very danceable.
The Mixer remains "a hit", providing everyone (who desires) an opportunity to dance around the floor 3 to 4 times with a different partner
.
COMING ATTRACTIONS
April 11th (second Sunday)
The time has arrived to Rock and Roll, Move and Grove!!!! "American Swing" or if you prefer "East Coast Swing" or "Triple Swing". I feel one of the best parts of this dance is the music, very stimulating. This dance is really fun and a great dance for the beginner to be exposed to. Be ready for a fast pace, high energy and just plain fun. Robert Alexander, Eugene, will teach an intermediate lesson at 5pm and beginning lesson at 6pm. Robert will, I'm sure present a number of varying forms, spins, pivot turns, steps and patterns for the experienced dancer as well as sound basics for the beginner.
But I warn you now!!!.....be ready for some of Robert's humor, antics and an entertaining two (2) hours of lessons.
Be sure to keep well hydrated, because the Ballroom is bound to "over heat" at times. Our DJ for the evening will be Robert Phaigh, and he always has a great selection for the "theme" of the evening. DON'T MISS THIS ONE!!! Buckle or tie those shoes on real good, no time to stop tie or buckle in the middle of a "good swing"!!
May 9th (second Sunday)
Beginning lesson at 6pm......PLEASE NOTE: NO lesson at 5pm.
Night Club Two Step: A real treat with Robert Phaigh teaching this dance the way it was intended to be danced. You can count on getting good sound technique from this popular and experienced teacher. By the way, Robert Phaigh is the husband of "our lovely Laura Taylor". Laura, hopefully will be in attendance to assist Robert with all his demonstrations. You can count on me being there, my shoes tied/buckled, ready for this one, can hardly wait.
June 13th (second Sunday)
Tango....Bonnie Prater....Newberg, Or.
Beginning lesson at 6pm........Again PLEASE NOTE: NO lesson at 5pm.. More about Bonnie later, a talented and pleasant teacher.
July 11th (second Sunday)
Teacher and dance lesson not confirmed.
HUMOR OF THE DAY
The man who can't dance thinks the band is no good."
