USA Dance Eugene/Springfield Chapter #1010

Eugene, OR

Faye Henderson

I had too much fun at City of Roses Ballroom Classic in March and took a longer break than I intended.....so you are going to get TWO for ONE this time.

APRIL 12th dance, (Easter Sunday) found attendance down, but dancing spirits remained at a high level! Thanks to Melena Bronson (Swing Queen) who taught a lively ECS Intermediate at 5pm and Beginning at 6pm. She demonstrated the basic triple step, tuck and turn, triple turns, back to back, "tuck in hammer lock", (is this a hold used in Wrestling?!) I did'nt see anyone on the floor.....Did we get it wrong?

Melena, you allowed everyone to have fun while at the same time teaching a variety of steps to this very popular swing dance.

When I was growing up and listening to Glenn Miller and some others, this dance was known as "The Jitter Bug".

Since dancing was forbidden in my cluture/religion, my cousins, friends and I would "sneak" around and dance anyway. Not one of us had a "clue" what we were doing!!! And I'm still having fun with "The Jitter Bug", without permission from my parents.

Melena, thanks again, for a great lesson and lots of fun "to boot"!

MAY 10th (Mother's Day) attendance back up to normal....big crowd gathered, 47-50, dancers gathered on to the dance floor at 6pm, their feet and spirits ready to go as "Charming Laura Taylor" commenced the beginning lesson...HUSTLE. She brought this dance to full-scale in a non-intimidating fashion for the "experienced" as well as the "first time" dancer, demonstrating various techniques, patterns and steps, being very careful and focused on rotating partners very frequently.

Thanks "Charming Laura" for your superb teaching, natural ability and competency.

Yes, you can count on me being in line, with shoes on, tied/buckled, ready to jump in and be a part of your next lesson, especially HUSTLE.

Thanks and appreciation going out with this note to Meng and Wu for DJing our April dance. Also thanks and appreciation to Robert Phaigh for DJing our May dance....as always, great selection of music for our dancing pleasure. The "Mixer" seems to be very popular, giving everyone, who wishes, an opportunity to dance around the floor 2 to 3 times.

June 14th (second sunday), Robert Alexander will teach at 6pm to 6:30pm, Beginning "Merengue". Then to speed things up "just a little" he will teach beginning "Salsa" 6:30 to 7:00pm. Just count on these dances being "festive", "hot" and WAY TOO MUCH FUN.

Our dances are held second Sunday each month at Veterans Memorial Building located 1626 Willamette St. Lesson 6 to 7pm....Social dancing kicks in at 7pm and goes till 9:30pm. Cost: $5 members, $8 non-member. Clean environment, no smoking, no alcohol.

Looking ahead, Robert PHAIGH will teach NC 2 Step in July.....Can't wait for this one!

Till next time, Faye Henderson, Eugene, OR
